My sister's been after me for a while now to try Team Trivia at one of the local restaurants, the Lobby House. She and her boyfriend took my husband and I out for sushi for our birthdays last night, and since they already had plans to head over there afterward, we tagged along.
Here's the website. It's run by a DJ, who sets up his little table with his laptop and a big fishbowl. He reads off a question and plays a song, and by the end of the song, your team has to have their answer (written on a little slip of paper with your team number and how many points you want to bid on it) in the fish bowl. Each section has 3 questions, and at the beginning the DJ tells everyone what the categories will be, like History, Sports, and Geography. You can bid 1, 3, and 5 points in the first round, and 2, 4, or 6 in the second round. There are bonuses for different things, like the funniest team name.
Our team name was "We're not happy until you're not happy" but it lost the funniest name competition to "Dog the MILF hunter". That's too bad, because those bonus points and the points we lost for a question we argued about at length and finally went with the wrong answer on could have put us in first place. As it was, we got 2nd place, 6 points behind "The gringoes". They got a $50 gift certificate, we got $25, and whoever came in 3rd got $10.
Now we have to go back next week and spend our earnings! I posted to the Delaware Mensa e-list to see if anyone else wants to join us. I could see it becoming a weekly addiction.
We spent 4 days up in the Poconos this past weekend, with our temporary home being a charming little bed and breakfast outside Hazleton, PA.
Photos here, here, here, and here.
This evening is the opening reception for the Group Art Show my husband's work will be featured in, and tomorrow morning we're off bright and early to board the dogs and head for the hills.
:)
BuzzTime Trivia again this evening, at Buffalo Wild Wings in Dover. We lost one of our regulars, since J moved to Portland last month. :(
I played using my own name tonight, since we were expecting a new person, but then I spoke to him on the phone and he couldn't make it after all. (I usually use some other word or name, just for fun. Blame my husband and his sister--we used to go bowling and no one ever used their real names, and I, for one, rarely got to see what my name would even be until it was too late.)
Whaddya know, I won the first found, and since it was only the 3rd of the month, I ended up with my name as #2 on the top 10 for the location list that shows again between every game. ;)
